USING YOUR VERTIGO WITH A SONY FX6

Caveats:

It is certainly possible to damage your equipment through the use of the M1 Advanced Prototype. Proceed cautiously and note our extensive “don’t blame us” terms of use.

Note that ports and buttons on the front face of your camera may not be accessible when the Vertigo is installed and you may need to remove accessories that extend forward of the e-mount port if they conflict with the installation of the Vertigo.

Prior to installing the Vertigo, prepare your camera and attach a 15mm rod baseplate.

Installation:

1: Remove the FX6’s top handle and set aside. Remove any accessories that are mounted forward of the camera’s E-mount plane and interfere with the installation of the Vertigo. Remove the 15mm rod bracket from the Vertigo (if installed).

2: Remove the camera port cap and Vertigo back cap

3: Align the red dot on the Vertigo rear port with the dot on your camera’s e-mount port. Rotate the Vertigo into place as you would a lens until locked. If any part of your camera prevents the turret from seating, cap your camera and Vertigo and remove the offending item before proceeding. Do NOT mount lenses or apply any additional weight or force to the Vertigo at this step. Take it E-asy on your E-mount.

4: Once nicely seated, take a moment to admire the sight of a turret on your camera, then remove the Vertigo and cap the turret and lens ports. Don’t worry. You’re going to attach it again.

5: If installed, remove the short 15mm rods from the Vertigo 15mm rod bracket and set aside. Loosely attach the Vertigo 15mm rod bracket to the upper left and right holes on the rear of the turret (see photo) using the supplied 1/4-20 bolts.

The bracket should slide freely within the slots. “Smooth and wiggly”.

6: Ensure the rod locks on your camera’s 15mm rod base are loose.

7: Install the Vertigo onto your camera as per step #2. You may need to wiggle the 15mm rod clear (downwards) if it connects with the protruding “foot” of the Sony FX6.

8: Slide the FX6 mounting rod through the back of your Camera’s 15mm rod base with the threaded end facing the Vertigo. Align the threaded end with the threaded hole in the rear of the Vertigo’s 15mm rod bracket. You may have to slide or jiggle the rod bracket vertically within the rod bracket to seat the rod into the hole.
If you are unable to seat the rod into the threaded hole then it’s very likely your 15mm base is not properly aligned with the centre of your camera (ie twisted) and you may need to take some time to align and/or shim your camera’s baseplate.

YOU SHOULD NOT NEED TO FORCE THE FX6 ROD INTO THE VERTIGO’S 15mm BRACKET- If you’re struggling with this step and aligning your baseplate get in touch with us.

9: Rotate the FX6 rod clockwise to fasten it to the 15mm rod plate

10. Using a hex key (ideally a long, ball-headed one). tighten the 1/4-20 screws, securely fastening the 15mm rod plate to the back of the Vertigo.

11: Tighten the rod locks on your camera’s 15mm rod base. Inspect the Vertigo, 15mm rod bracket and e-mount for any potential fit or safety issues.

12: Remove the Vertigo by removing the rod and depressing the lens-catch release lever on the back of the Vertigo. If the camera refuses to release the Vertigo (and what camera wouldn’t), rock the Vertigo slightly back into place and the lens-lock will release. Rotate the Vertigo free of the lens mount.

13. Inspect the Vertigo and again inspect your camera and Vertigo for any potential fit or safety issues.

14: Re-install Vertigo to check fit. Your turret should rotate smoothly into place like a lens and be well-supported by the FX6 rod and the rod base. You may re-install your top handle at this point.
